Many Thanks for your support!

Our Open Day was a great success, we raised over £140 for our Society. It was a busy day with many visitors coming in to have a look around and to see what having an an allotment is all about. The event was held as part of National Allotments Week, which was devised to promote awareness of Allotments and their benefits to its users and the local community as a whole, it's fair to say that our Open Day succeeded in this regard.

It was nice to see local people showing an interest in our site and the comments made about how well kept it is,  were extremely nice to hear. We've worked very hard this year on improving conditions on the site and receiving these words or encouragement and praise make it all the more worth while.

We have raised over £630:00 this year and this is thanks to local people coming along and showing  their support. We've also started this financial year £310 better off thanks to Waitrose of Buckhurst Hill. They have helped us a great deal this year and we're very grateful for their generosity and support.

Managed by Debden Horticultural and Allotments Society

Our plots are situated on Willingale Road, close to Debden Broadway in Loughton, Essex. Our allotments have water tanks for plot irrigation, Ladies, Gents and Disabled toilet facilities, secure shared storage for tools, and an office for committee meetings, also a Tea Room where you can escape the showers and make a hot drink. Plots do vary in size and shape but the average plot is around 5 metres by 20 meters (16'4"x65'). The rental cost for each plot is as follows:

Average Full Plot (4 rods) £30 per annum

Average Half Plot (2 rods) £20:00 per annum

Membership (Debden Horticultural and Allotments Society) £5:00 per annum

Having an Allotment can be very rewarding, being out in the fresh air, exercise and growing your own veg are just some of the benefits. It is, however, hard work and a commitment in the long term. Don't expect to have soil like you see on Gardeners World straight away, it takes time and toil to turn our essex clay into anything resembling that. If you're willing to put in the time and work you will literally reap the benefits.

There is nothing quite as satisfying than popping down to your plot and picking fresh fruit and veg for your dinner. The social aspect is another great part of having an allotment, some days you won't do much work, you'll just be talking and drinking tea with your fellow plot holders, and that's fine, it's supposed to be fun and not just hard graft. Personally I'd be lost without my allotment, I look forward to going down just because of the friends I've made. If this sounds like something you would like to do, come down and see us.
